When the commitment of an organisation is to value people’s knowledge and build its work on their confidence, the need to explore various tools of expression through which people can communicate with the outside world. Because the outside world is a reality and their necessity to communicate with it is also a reality. In this effort, literacy was not the only choice. Literacy could actually become a constraint for non-literate people whose aural and visual narratives are so powerful. So the Deccan Development Society has provided video and audio technologies as a means of expression for the disadvantaged rural women and equipped a group of over fifteen women with the skills to handle this media. And thus the Community Media Trust was born in 1998. Here are some of the videos shot edited, dubbed, mixed partially by the rural women -Narsamma, Manjula, Punniamma, Kavitha, Sakuntala, Mullamma, Laxamma, Sangamma and Yesu. Balwadi

Childcare is an important area of concern. All the DDS women work during the day. Because of the taxing working hours these women have expressed a need for someone to take care of their children during their absence. The DDS balwadis cater to this need. A video by Community Media Trust.

Bio-diversity Festival

DDS has been entrusted with the responsibility of preparing strategies and plans for conservation, enhancement, equitable distribution and sustainable utility of Agrobiodiversity in the Zaheerabad and Deccan region. As part of this strategy and action plan preparation for Agrobiodiversity conservation and enhancement in this region, we have celebrated this pata pantala Jathara (traditional crops Jathara) in 66 villages, by involving and actively interacting with different categories of farmers in each village.

Farmer's Jury

The Prajateerpu, a farmers jury on Food Futures in the state of Andhra Pradesh in South India was organised in the context of the currently re-thinking by AP on its approach to farming, land use and marketing.

Verdict

The people’s verdict, which was reached on July 1st and presented to the A.P.Government and World Bank, will have implications for policy-makers at a national and international level.

Uncultivated Food

DDS model of PDS which is called the Alternative PDS through Community Grain Fund. This is a model which intends to set up a totally community managed PDS system based on coarse grains, locally produced, locally stored and locally distributed.

The Sangam Shot

The video training has tremendous value as it comes at a time when women are required to communicate more widely. Handling the camera also gives visibility in the community and empowers the women to document the stories of the community.
